Daniel Isaac Blanshan was born in Onandaga County, New York
on November 29, 1850 to parents Matthew and Sarah Decker
Blanshan . He moved with his family to Sheboygan,Wisconsin in
1857 at the age of 7 and on to Grand Junction, Iowa in 1873.
Daniel married Ella Nancy Mack on January 1, 1880. Ella was born
in Ilinois in 1861. Daniel was a Baptist and a life-long farmer. His total
earnings from farming in 1915 were $2000 on a farm worth $28,000.
He died in Grand Junction, Iowa on October 24, 1932 and is buried
in the Grand Junction Cemetery. Ella died March 26, 1950 at age 88
and is buried with Daniel.
Daniel and Ella had the following children:
Melvin D. - born October 19, 1880 in Greene County, Iowa. He married
Lenora Hawbaker (April 5, 1893 - March 11, 1929) and they had
children Loyal (1915), Emmet R. (January 23, 1916 - July 24 1955),
Bonnilla (1918), Raymond V. (1921), Iola L. Blanshan Comey (1924)
and John D. (1927). Melvin farmed in Junction Township. Melvin died
October 19, 1951 at age 71.
Sarah Emma (Sadie) - born May 8, 1882. She married Clarence
Wessling (June 12, 1881- April 13, 1935). They had children William
Douglas (1916 - 2008), who married Nadine Culley. They had children
LeRoy, Roger, Ivan and Jane, and Ione (1921 - 1998) who married
W.H. McHugh and had children Darwin and Mary. Sadie died
December 25, 1963 at age 81.
Merton Willard - born June 24, 1884. He married Sadie Rachel
Anderson, daughter of Samuel C and Mary Elizabeth Jenkins
Anderson (January 9, 1891- September 28, 1969). Their children
were Naomi E. (1913), Harold Irwin (1916 - 2001), Donald Keith
(1919-1986), Cleo M. (1923) and Kenneth Willard (1929-1974). Merton
died March 12, 1955 at age 70. (See Merton Willard Blanshan page)
Laura May - born December 6, 1885 in Junction Township, Iowa. She
married Willie Johnson (May 30, 1884 - July 3, 1958) and they had
children Alice, Raymond and Herman. Laura died January 3, 1969 at
Amy Alice - born November 25, 1887. Amy was a schoolteacher
before marrying Oliver Hendershott (August 20, 1888 - May 7, 1975).
They had children Saramae Hendershott Rowles and Herma
Hendershott Parr. Amy died October 2, 1988 at age 100.
Walter A. -- born in 1890, died in 1891 at one year of age.
Ernest Willis - born August 11, 1891. He married Lela H. Dugan
(1896-1947) on December 13, 1916 in Boone, Iowa. They had children
Willis D. (1918) (Alice Baken), Floyd E. (1920), Gerald E. (1925), Eldon
(1931) and Dale (1933) (Frances Bianchi). Ernest died February 18,
1978 at age 86.
Vera Lovilla - born November 7, 1895. She married Archie Hoskinson
and they had children Zola Hoskinson Wilson (Kenneth), Leon
Hoskinson (______ Parker), Dean Hoskinson (Doris Davis), Wayne
Hoskinson, Virginia Hoskinsons and Keih osinson (Janet Adamson).
Vera died February 25, 1999 in Jefferson,Greene County, Iowa at age

Lura Frona- born December 10, 1897. She married Emmet E.
Hendershott (1894 - 1976). She died June 9, 1987 at age 89. (See

Erma B. - born October 11, 1900. She married Gordon Sizer
(September 16, 1899 - July 7, 1975). Erma died March 28, 1990 at age
Myra E. - born April 2, 1904. She died August 30, 1942 at age 38.

VERA LOVILLA BLANSHAN HOSKINSON
Vera L. Hoskinson, 103, of Jefferson died of a heart
ailment Thursday at Jefferson Health Care Center there.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Slininger-Rossow
Funeral Home in Jefferson, with burial at Junction
Township Cemetery in Grand Junction.
Mrs. Hoskinson had lived in the Grand Junction area all
her life before moving to Jefferson in 1983. She was a
homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in
Jefferson, LL Club, HH Club and Grand Junction Garden
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Rohden of Des
Moines; three sons, Dean and Keith, both of Grand
Junction, and Wayne of Tucson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren;
31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-
Friends may call after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home.
