Matthew Blanshan was born in 1756 to parents Matheus Blanshan and
Annaatjen Freer Blanshan. He was baptized November 28, 1756 under the
sponsorship of Johannes Van Wagenen and his wife Elizabeth Freer. He
married Margaret Schoonmaker, daughter of Lodewyck and Catrina
Schoonmaker, baptized in Rochester on September 12, 1764. Matthew was
a Signer of the Articles of Association from Hurley. He was a Sargeant in the
7th Co. of the 1st Ulster Militia.
